Austin metro is fastest-growing in the US for 12th year in a row

For the 12th consecutive year, the Austin metro area claims the title of the fastest-growing region in the nation. City Demographer Lila Valencia highlighted Austin's population growth trends during a recent city council session. With an estimated 2022 population of 974,447—an increase of 1.3% from the 2020 census—Austin edges closer to the million mark. Remarkably, while over 800 U.S. cities with 50,000+ residents have seen a decline since 2020, Austin stands against this trend. Notably, the rapid growth extends beyond Austin to suburban cities like Georgetown, Kyle, and Leander, all ranking among the top four fastest-growing cities nationwide in 2022.
