The Austin Central Library, a destination known for its stunning architecture and vibrant community spaces, has finally unveiled its highly anticipated new cafe: Café Crème. Filling a long-vacant spot, this local, family-owned coffee shop and eatery brings a unique blend of French and Vietnamese culinary heritage to the heart of Downtown Austin.

Located on the West Second Street side of the library at 710 W. César Chávez, Café Crème is more than just a place to grab a quick cup of coffee; it's a cozy, charming escape designed to enhance the library experience for students, professionals, and families alike.

A Destination for Coffee and Cuisine

Café Crème, which already has a beloved location on Oltorf Street, is known for its "good vibes, great coffee," and a menu that goes far beyond standard cafe fare. Patrons can now enjoy a diverse selection of food and drink in a bright and airy atmosphere, complete with plenty of comfortable seating inside and a huge gathering space on the outside patio.

Key highlights of the menu include:

  • Signature Crêpes: A celebration of their French-Vietnamese roots, the menu features both savory and sweet crêpes. Savory options like the Tuscany Crêpe (chicken, pesto, mozzarella, and vegetables) and sweet treats like the Florence Crêpe (Nutella with banana or strawberry) are must-tries.

  • Coffee & Specialty Drinks: From expertly crafted espresso drinks and cold brew to their signature Café Crème Brûlée latte and authentic Café Sua Da (Vietnamese iced coffee), there's a perfect sip for every mood. Specialty beverages also include Matcha Green Tea Lattés and boba tea.

  • Expanded Fare: Beyond coffee and crêpes, the full menu features local favorites like breakfast tacos, fresh sandwiches (try the Lox on a bagel!), hearty salads, and a variety of fresh pastries.

More Than Just a Cafe

One of the most appealing aspects of the new location is the ambiance. Reviews praise the lovely interior, the abundant natural light, and the pleasant, non-distracting music—making it a perfect spot for co-working and studying. The cafe also offers conveniences like fast Wi-Fi and plenty of outlets, fulfilling a long-felt need for a productive downtown hub.

The cafe further distinguishes itself by embracing the community-centric spirit of the library:

  • Convenient Location: It offers a great starting point for walks or runs along the adjacent trail.
  • Parking: Visitors can enjoy one hour of free parking in the Austin Central Library garage, making a quick visit hassle-free.
  • Late-Day Relaxation: For those winding down after a long day of reading or work, the cafe also offers an array of drinks, including local craft beers and curated wines.

Café Crème is quickly establishing itself as a key feature of the Austin Central Library, living up to the library’s goal of being a vital destination for the entire Austin community to gather, discover, and create.
